Senior Portraits | Roger Williams Park

RI Portrait Photographer.jpg

I’m kicking off the 2021 year by putting Elena’s fall senior session on the blog. Her session was photographed at Roger Williams Park in Providence, RI.

Roger Williams Park is a perennial favorite for any portrait session. I’ve photographed everything from formal wedding portraits to senior picture sessions there. As a matter of fact, it’s an honorable mention of my list of favorite locations to engagement portraits. The only reason why it didn’t make the count is that the list highlighted Downtown Providence and RWP is a few miles away from the city center.

Back to Elena’s session…

For this senior portrait session, Elena and I made images at two iconic locations at the park: The Iron Bridge and The Japanese Garden. We also made some images on the path across from the Pavilion and some at the Dalrymple Boathouse.

As a senior portrait photographer, when I’m working with just one subject, I love using the Iron Bridge because it adds character and interest to the images I make. It’s a great “prop” on its own because it’s so distinctive, but it’s also great to pose folks against. Elena and I made several portraits on this bridge with her guitar, and they came out spectacular.

The Japanese garden is my second favorite location at the park. Planted with gorgeous cherry trees and its own moat, this spot has so many nooks and crannies for me to use during a portrait session. I never photograph the same way twice at this spot, simply because it compliments each individual. The last images Elena and I made were at this location. Given her relaxed nature, this was the spot where Elena got to kick back and sit.

Elena’s session was a great one, mostly since she adhered to the 5-tips I give for a successful portrait session:

1. Bring 4 – 5 outfits

2. Bring a hype-squad

3. Have your grooming kit on hand

4. Bring a prop that means something special to you

5. Don’t be afraid to be silly!

We spent an hour and a half together. I delivered a gallery of 130 beautiful, natural and fabulous pictures for her to pick through. Check out some of my favorites below!
