How to express your personality in your senior photos

Senior portrait photographer

Senior portraits are a great way to mark a notable milestone in your life: your graduation from high school - freedom from the proverbial rat race!. Choosing to have senior pictures made means you'll end up with not just images your parents and family will love. They will also be a fantastic reminder of the exhilaration you're feeling at this time in your life.

When photographing seniors, it's vital that my senior subjects incorporate as much of their unique personalities as possible in their sessions. After all, my dear senior - these images are about you, what you have accomplished, and what you have become. So it only makes sense that your personality shines in every single photo!

Have a favorite outfit? Make sure you wear it!

I tell all my clients to bring three outfits. one for your parents, one for you and one for fun!. It's a great way to get photos of you wearing something formal or dressy. But it's important to wear something you feel comfortable in. It's the best way to express your personality, which is essential. When you wear an outfit you usually wear, you're more likely to feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera.

Note: If you're a fan of graphic tee shirts, I recommend wearing the most innocuous one you've got. I'd hate for your shirt to grab the attention in a picture instead of you. Consider wearing your class T-Shirt or something that shows your school pride instead.

 Add all the accessories!

Hats! Bangles! Shoes! Wallet Chains! Bring all your favorite accessories to your session. Accessorizing is one of the best ways to show off your personality. It also ensures that your pictures look and feel like you! If you have a kick-ass pair of shoes that you've been dying to showcase - THIS IS THE TIME! Tessa wore this killer pair of jeans with art painted on them in her session. They suited her to a T! Whatever pieces of apparel that just scream you, make sure you bring them to your portrait session!

Show off your passions and what's important to you.

Here's where you can really show off the hobbies you love! If you love to play a musical instrument or have been a sports player for as long as you can remember, let me know! It's great to think of unique ways to incorporate your passions into your session. For example, LaCrosse and Soccer are Tessa's passions - so she brought some props to use in her session.

 Celebrate what you've accomplished

Chances are extracurriculars aren't your only accomplishments in high school. Show off your club memberships as well! Bring your honor society pins and ribbons to the session as well! There are various ways to show off the teams, clubs, and activities you represent and everything you've accomplished during your high school career.

Work with your photographer to choose the location for your session.

It's no secret that I absolutely LOVE Providence and all its mural-goodness. But if that's not your vibe, then let's pick a place that is. It's important to let me know what you're into as your photographer so I can help you choose the best location for your session. I give all my seniors a questionnaire to complete before the session so I can get an idea of what would appeal to them. The questionnaire helps me make informed suggestions.
