Where to have your senior pictures taken in Rhode Island

Graduating seniors in Rhode Island who want their senior portrait session featuring an edgy backdrop should consider having their senior pictures made in Providence, RI.  Providence is home to many murals by many artists. As Providence is home to the Rhode Island School Of Design (RISD), there are works of art and art installations littered across this quaint little city.

Fun places for a senior portrait shoot in Providence

This senior photoshoot was photographed in Smithfield RI and in  Providence RI close to the PCTA and features artwork by the talented folx at the Avenue Concept (@avenuepvd). Edie, LasSalle Class of 2021, responded to a model call and we worked for about 60 minutes. In that amount of time, we made portraits at an old barn that I’ve had my eye on for months.
This barn provided a great backdrop for the portrait because of it has great lines and centered the focus of the image right on Edie.  Which is what you want for your senior pictures - you want to be the star of your own image.  The stark white wall of the barn gave Edie’s pictures a clean contemporary, almost dystopian feel to them, which made her look even more elegant.

In Providence, we worked in two locations - The first was the Selfie wall, and the next was the razzle dazzle courtyard.  The Selfie wall adds a great pop of color to any senior session and is great for taking selfies as well.  Edie wore the same gorgeous pants from Shein, but then added a wool burgundy hat that I brought. If you’d like this hat for yourself, definitely go pick it up on Amazon - it comes in several different colors!

What to consider in location for your senior portraits

Find a location that suits your vibe - do you want lots of green, like in a park, or are you more of a edgy individual and you want lots of architecture and city scape in your pictures

  • Think of the time of year - the best time for senior portraits is in the summer before your senior year, or in the spring of your actual year. The winter is usually cold and gray (at least in New England) and so the usual outdoor backdrops can be drab.  If you want flowers, and/or greenery, winter is NOT your best bet. Fall is a great time because of the beautiful foliage, however the window of great foliage is short and quick.  Most seniors’ lives are filled with lots of obligations at that time as well, and so you may miss the best of the season if you don’t plan ahead.

  • Plan your wardrobe choices with your photographer.

After a quick outfit change, we headed over to the Razzle Dazzle mural for the final minutes of her session. She changed outfits - those killer cow print pants she has on came from Shein.com
